How to Import Your Networking Spreadsheet Into OfferPath

Already tracking contacts in Google Sheets or Excel? Export it as a CSV and import it straight into OfferPath: how the column mapping works, what happens to duplicates, and how the free 50-contact limit applies.

Most students start networking recruiting with a spreadsheet: a running list of names, firms, and where things stand with each person. That is a completely fine way to start, and you do not have to throw it away or re-type it. OfferPath can import it directly, so your existing pipeline shows up in the tracker with its follow-up cadence already running.

Step 1: export your spreadsheet as a CSV

A CSV (comma-separated values) file is a plain-text version of your spreadsheet that any tool, including OfferPath, can read. Exporting one takes a few seconds:

  • Google Sheets: File > Download > Comma Separated Values (.csv).
  • Excel: File > Save As, then choose "CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (*.csv)" as the file type. Plain "CSV" also works, but the UTF-8 variant handles accented names and special characters more reliably.
  • Numbers (Mac): File > Export To > CSV.

Step 2: upload it in the tracker

In the tracker, open "Add a Contact" and expand "Import from CSV" just below it. Upload the file you exported. Nothing saves yet at this point: parsing happens entirely in your browser, so the raw file never touches OfferPath's servers until you confirm the import.

Step 3: confirm the column mapping

OfferPath reads your header row and guesses which column is which; common headers like "Name," "Company," "Title," "Email," and "Status" match automatically. You will see every column with a dropdown so you can correct or fill in any guess. Columns OfferPath understands:

  • Name (or separate First Name / Last Name columns)
  • Firm (also matches Company or Bank)
  • Role (also matches Title or Position)
  • Group (the coverage group or desk, e.g. TMT or Healthcare)
  • Email
  • Status (matched case-insensitively; anything that isn't one of OfferPath's pipeline stages defaults to "Not Contacted" rather than being invented)
  • Notes

Any column that does not match one of these, like a spreadsheet formula column or a personal rating system, is left as "Ignore" and simply is not imported.

Step 4: review the preview before anything saves

Before a single row is saved, OfferPath shows a preview of every parsed contact. Rows missing a name are flagged and cannot be imported (name is the one required field). You can uncheck any row you don't want, for anyone already in your spreadsheet you don't actually want to add.

How duplicates are handled

If a row matches a contact already in your tracker, by email when one is present, or by name and firm together when it isn't, it is flagged as a duplicate and left unchecked by default. This also catches duplicate rows within the spreadsheet itself, so a contact listed twice in your own file only imports once.

The free 50-contact limit

OfferPath is free up to 50 contacts. If your spreadsheet would push you past that, the import fills the remaining room and reports exactly how many rows did not fit, instead of failing the whole import. Pro removes the limit entirely, so a large existing pipeline imports in one pass.

Once your spreadsheet is in, OfferPath takes over the part a spreadsheet can't do: it tells you exactly who is due for a follow-up and when, from the same dates you just imported.

Frequently asked questions

Does importing a spreadsheet cost anything?

No. Importing is free up to OfferPath's 50 free contacts. If your spreadsheet has more than that, the import fills the remaining room and tells you how many rows were skipped; Pro removes the limit.

What spreadsheet columns does OfferPath recognize?

Name (or First Name / Last Name), Firm (or Company / Bank), Role (or Title / Position), Group, Email, Status, and Notes. Anything else is ignored, and you confirm every column's mapping before import.

Will importing create duplicate contacts?

No. A row matching an existing contact by email, or by name and firm when there's no email, is flagged as a duplicate and excluded by default, including duplicate rows within the same spreadsheet.

Is my spreadsheet uploaded to OfferPath's servers?

The file is parsed entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to OfferPath until you review the preview and confirm the import.
